Beaches in Seignosse
Seignosse boasts four monitored beaches along approximately six kilometers of coastline: Le Penon, Les Bourdaines, Les Estagnots, and Les Casernes. Viewed from the road, they may look the same — identical sand, identical ocean. However, they vary significantly based on what you’re looking for: a peaceful family swim, a surfing session, or a beach where you won’t encounter anyone.
Here’s what truly sets them apart, along with the information you seek the night before: where to park, the hours lifeguards are on duty, and what facilities are available on-site.
The Penon Beach
This is the central beach of the resort and by far the easiest to access: there are no dunes to cross, the sand starts right at the end of the parking lot. Shops, restaurants, and residences are just a few dozen meters away, making it the ideal beach for a car-free holiday.
Our two studios are just a 5 minute walk from this beach, located on Avenue de la Grande Plage.
Onsite: lifeguard station, surf schools, bar-restaurant, showers, and sanitary facilities. Parking is free, and the water park is located just behind the dune, next to the parking area. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag and is equipped with a tiralo, an amphibious wheelchair that allows access to the water for people with reduced mobility.
A point of caution: in summer, swimmers and surfers can sometimes come very close to one another. Please stay within the area marked by flags, which is precisely there for that reason.
During the summer, two zones are monitored: the Penon with continuous surveillance, and the beach of Agréou, which is set up day by day at the discretion of the station chief.
This is also where locals come to watch the sunset.
Note: In August, parking lots are often full. Try to arrive as early as possible.
Bourdaines Beach
Between Penon and Estagnots, the Bourdaines are more discreet. The same quality of sand, less crowded, and a much calmer atmosphere as you move away from the main access point.
There is a lifeguard station, surf schools, a bar-restaurant, and restrooms. Free parking is available.
It’s a good backup when the Penon parking is full and you don’t want to drive all the way to Casernes.
Estagnots Beach
Located in the south of the municipality, heading towards Hossegor. The parking, also free, is set up at the top of the dune: you need to cross it to reach the sandy beach.
This beach is the most focused on surfing. Several schools operate here, and the spot is known well beyond the Landes. It has been awarded the Blue Flag and is equipped with a tiralo, restrooms, and a food point.
Continuing south on foot along the ocean, you can reach Hossegor via a much wilder coastline.
Casernes Beach
The wildest of the four. It is located to the north, where the Landes forest meets the dune, with no construction to disturb the view.
Access requires a bit of effort: a large free parking area shaded by pines, followed by a path of about 500 meters up the dune. You can also reach it by the bike path or the “Rose” trail starting from the Penon area.
Swimming is only supervised in July and August, while surf schools and the beach restaurant open in the spring. On-site: lifeguard station, restrooms, bike racks, and a handicap surf activity. Animals are not allowed in the regulated zone, and naturism is tolerated 400 meters north of it.
Off-season, you often find yourself alone here.
